The first post war 3 litre, 6 cylinder engine with new chassis design arrived in 1950 in the form of the TA21. By 1953 the first Graber styled car (TC108G) with bodies, firstly by Willowbrooks of Loughborough, but then transfered to Park Ward due to their superior quality. This then became the TD21, giving 130 bhp with a top speed of 100mph.
The TE21, with its twin headlights, was introduced in 1963 increasing the bhp to 150 and a top speed of 120mph. Disc brakes were fitted all round, along with the 5 speed ZF gearbox, as used by Aston Martin, and around half of the 325 TE's produced, had power steering. Alvis were always known for their build quality, luxury, good speed and torque and ease of driving. 95 of the TE21s were convertible. In the sixties there were very few four seater convertibles available - something Triumph realised by the introduction of the Stag in 1970.
The TE21 was superseded by the TF21 with it's triple carbs, and redesigned dashboard, But sadly, now taken over by Rover ceased car production in 1967, after 106 cars were produced.
I've owned this car since 1983, with a body rebuild in 1987, and engine 1997.. This has always been the most under rated classic car, but the current market is showing a considerable rise in prices, so maybe now, they a beginning to be recognised as the truly great car the are.
