Added to the Classic Touring car hire fleet autumn 2002 - many people say, "This is the model to have!" I agree, the basic understated interior and aluminum dash is beautiful.
This E Type was originally an export to Texas USA. Reimported in 1990, it then had a bare metal restoration and has covered little mileage since.
The brakes have been upgraded with Coopercraft calliper system, making it a pleasure to drive even with the slightly primitive Moss gearbox.
Introduced in 1961, the 3.8 powered E Type had a devastating top speed of 140mph, making it the fastest production British car. The wishbone and coil-spring independent rear suspension, gave a good grip and a smooth ride. On the down side, the brakes, although disc, were not of a good standard, and Jaguar continued to use the Moss gearbox, without synchromesh on first.
The callipers on our car have been up-rated, but the gearbox remains the same, so you’ll need good positive gear changing. This, along with the more basic cockpit design, gives you the rare opportunity to try the real feel of these first E Types. To many these are the only real E Types, and the most desirable.
